100 N Queen St, Kinston NC 28501
The remains of this Confederate ironclad are now under cover in a new museum in downtown Kinston. Launched in November 1863 to protect or reclaim the area's tidal rivers, the Neuse never got into action. It was scuttled in March 1865 as Union forces advanced to Kinston. Thousands of artifacts as well as the wooden hull of the ironclad were recovered. Exhibits are under construction.
Open 9 am-5 pm Tuesday-Saturday. Free.
