9840 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie VA 23841
This strategic crossroads was the anchor of the Confederate line until April 1, 1865, when it was attacked successfully by Union forces under Gen. Philip Sheridan and others. The Confederate loss here opened the door to the last supply line leading into the city — the South Side Railroad — and doomed Confederate Petersburg. Appomattox was a little more than a week away. The site is part of the Petersburg National Battlefield.
