Park units interpret important sites related to the 9.5-month siege of Petersburg in 1864-1865. A driving tour through the “Eastern Front” unit features fortifications on both sides of the fighting and includes the famous “Crater.” The “Grant's Headquarters at City Point” unit, located at the confluence of the James and Appomattox Rivers in Hopewell, interprets the massive Union command and supply center there. The Five Forks unit preserves the April 1, 1865, battlefield west of the city that led to the end of Confederate Petersburg. The park maintains visitor centers / museums in all these units.

Eastern Front (main) visitor center open 9 am-5 pm daily. Park gates open 8 am-8 pm. $5/vehicle (Eastern Front). Five Forks and City Point are free.
