Map

Robert E. Lee's army began disintegrating in earnest here April 6, 1865, four days after evacuating Richmond and Petersburg and three days before the surrender at Appomattox. Nearly trapped, the Confederate army managed to fight its way out, but lost an estimated one-fifth of its strength. Park highlights include exhibits in the visitor center, the restored Hillsman House, which was used as a hospital, walking trails and several Lee's Retreat tour stops.

Park open daylight hours. Visitor Center open 10 am–5 pm Monday–Saturday, noon–5 pm Sunday. Free.
