610 Battle Park Drive, Winchester VA 22601
Two battles were fought on essentially the same ground south of Winchester in and near Kernstown. The first battle, March 23, 1862, was considered a defeat for Stonewall Jackson as the famed Confederate general embarked on his Valley Campaign. The second battle, July 24, 1864, was a Confederate victory when Gen. Jubal Early defeated pursuing Federals after Early's Raid on Washington. This site preserves more than 300 acres, some of which saw action in both battles.
