The maps below highlight one feature on each battlefield. See the website for driving tours
These two battlefields, situated in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, feature Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson at his best. The battles of Cross Keys (June 8, 1862) and Port Republic a day later successfully ended Jackson's "Valley Campaign" in which he confounded several Union armies sent against him and prevented Federal reinforcements from reaching the Richmond area. Both battlefields are southeast of Harrisonburg and are centered on the picturesque village of Port Republic. Areas of both battlefields are preserved in the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Heritage District and driving tours are available from their website or at the District's information center in Harrisonburg (212 Main St).
