Robert E. Lee made this house his first headquarters after taking over command of the Army of Northern Virginia on June 1, 1862. Exhibits and a short film highlight the building's Civil War connection including a meeting here June 23, 1862, when Lee, A.P. Hill, Stonewall Jackson and D.H. Hill planned the Confederate offensive that became known as the Seven Days Battles. Information about other county Civil War sites also is offered. Tours of the restored Civil War-era parts of the house are available.
