Completed as the Wheeling Custom House at the beginning of the Civil War, this building was used for political discussions that led to West Virginia statehood in 1863. The interior of the building has been restored to its wartime appearance and the permanent exhibit "West Virginia: Born of the Civil War" uses displays and artifacts to tell the story.

Open Tuesday–Saturday 9 am–5 pm. Free.
